i.r.s. forms

Long before The Exchange had its current name, in the fall of 2009, the group of people putting the organization together had to apply for non-profit status with the Internal Revenue Service.  They chose the name "203 West Main Street Inc." -- the address of the building that they would move into in early 2010.  In order to not re-invent every wheel, they looked for examples of what others had written, through a simple Google search -- and amazingly enough, the Minnesota Transportation Museum had put their IRS documents onto their Web site.  Although coming from a completely different sort of organization, the MTM's 1023 form and narrative offered an excellent model, and we have always felt gratitude for their generosity.

In that spirit, we offer the documents here to any- and everyone interested.  We do NOT make any claim that current-day applicants will have the same success that we did (the IRS has gotten pickier about what they look for in a 501(c)(3) application), but we hope that you find these documents helpful.  We certainly do NOT offer them as any sort of legal advice.
