2026 EXHIBITS

Lori Sassani banner small.jpg

Lori Sassani solo show

Lori Sassani is a classically trained fine artist and second-generation artist whose creative journey began in childhood.  Under the guidance of her father, Mark Sassani (who had a solo show at the Exchange Gallery in 2023), she received art lessons and an introduction to the rich world of art history.  Painting alongside him and frequent visits to art museums became the foundation of her artistic inspiration.  Her mother’s encouragement to create and appreciate art further nurtured her passion.

Lori earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and currently lives in Brazil.  Working primarily in oil, she captures the beauty of everyday life through narrative works that evoke mood and emotion.  Her pieces feature familiar, relatable subjects, inviting viewers to interpret and explore the layers of meaning within her art.  Find out more at LoriSassani.com.

The show runs Monday, July 27th, through Friday, September 4th, with a reception on Friday, August 7th.

The 80-square-mile Roaring Creek watershed lies in Columbia, Montour, and Northumberland Counties; it includes the popular trails around the reservoirs in Weiser State Forest as well as the farm country surrounding Fisherdale, Mill Grove, Numidia, Slabtown – and Knoebels.  Just as we had done in the “SITEexchange” show, we sought artwork, in any medium, that celebrates this lovely part of our region -- and especially the interactions of the people of the region with each other and/or with the landscape.

The exhibition overall has 80 pieces by 38 artists who live in those three counties; they range in age from 7 to 70something, and 13 of them have work here for the first time!  The show runs Monday, June 15th, through Friday, July 24th, with a reception 5-8 p.m. on Friday, July 3rd.

The storytelling event that we hosted in collaboration with this exhibition took place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23rd; to watch the video, click here.

In the Cherokee language, the word for "community" gets transliterated as "sgadugi". (For pronunciation, visit cherokeelanguage.org/words/community-sgadugi-western.)  Sgadugi means "a group of interacting living beings – the people, animals, plants, and more – sharing their environment".  It also means "a social unit of humans who share common values".

We asked "What does the community in the Roaring Creek Valley mean to you?  How do we, the human inhabitants, interact with the landscape and with each other?  How do we represent all of this in artwork?"

And what stories do we have of the watershed?  Daniel Brassington, the president of the Roaring Creek Conservation Association, grew up in one of the last farms in the area to get electricity and plumbing; he remembers a basin of water in his bedroom freezing solid on winter mornings. Mary Rose Luby, RCVCA secretary, grew up on another farm in the valley, and she remembers her parents becoming activists on behalf of the migrant workers who passed through the area.

This show marks the second collaboration between The Exchange and the Roaring Creek Valley Conservation Association, which seeks to conserve the natural resources of the basin and its rich culture through watershed stewardship, education, and monitoring.  Find out more about the RCVCA here.

Exchange of Talents door banner.jpg

Since 2014, the Exchange Gallery has hosted about 90 open-call shows, and almost 1,800 people have exhibited work here.  We have immense gratitude for each and every one of them: We very literally would not have a Gallery without the artists, who have shared thousands of artworks and thousands of stories.  They bring life life to this space; they are the heartbeat of The Exchange.

We asked all of these artists to reflect on us: What do The Exchange and the Exchange Gallery mean to you as an artist?  How has exhibiting in this space changed your experience of art, whether making art or displaying art or looking at art or thinking about art?  Have you formed new relationships through your experience at The Exchange?  Whether you bring new work, or something that you exhibited before -- perhaps the very first piece that you showed here, which for many of you means the first piece that you ever showed publicly anywhere -- we want to see artwork that speaks to these questions!

"Exchange of Talents" has 76 pieces by 29 artists who live in six central-Pennsylvania counties.  Some artists brought new work and some brought things that they'd exhibited before -- perhaps the very first piece that they'd ever showed here, which for many people means the first piece that they ever showed publicly anywhere.

The show runs Monday, May 4th, through Friday, June 12th, with a reception from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5th

Belief door banner.jpg

A belief is defined as an acceptance that a statement is true or that something exists.  Beliefs can be a source of strength, conviction, or validation and can also be limiting or inflexible.  However, a belief can evolve or change.  What comes to mind when you think of the word belief?  As ever, we accepted all media, 2D and 3D, up to the size of our front door, with work from artists of ALL ages and levels of experience encouraged.

For this show, 38 people from seven central-Pennsylvania counties plus Elmira, N. Y., answered the call, with 126 pieces in a remarkable range of 2D work -- paintings, drawings, photographs, collages, and prints -- plus more than 20 3D pieces in a range of materials from wood to polymer clay to slime (yes, come feel it for yourself!) and handmade paper.  Of these artists, 13 of them had work at the Exchange Gallery for the first time.

The show runs Monday, March 23rd, through Friday, May 1st, with a reception 5-8 p.m. on Friday, April 3rd during First Friday in Bloomsburg.

Fairy Tales door banner 2026-01-16.jpg

Fairy tales have been prevalent in both Eastern and Western cultures throughout countless generations.  As folklore that has been passed down and changed throughout the years, these deceptively simple stories often tackle large subjects such as the human condition, moral ideologies, and societal expectations.  Many include elements of magic or enchantment.  Fairy tales continue to delight and charm audiences today in the form of novels, plays, and film, etc.

The Exchange asked to see artists' visual interpretation of fairy tales, and 42 people from six central-Pennsylvania counties answered the call, with 102 pieces in many media.  Of these artists, 13 of them had work at the Exchange Gallery for the first time, as we close in on 1,800 people having exhibited here since 2014!

The show runs Tuesday, February 17th, through Friday, March 20th, with a reception on Friday, March 6th.

Crossroads door banner.jpg

More than just a place where two roads meet, a crossroads can represent a turning point or a decision to make.  We posed this question: Whether literal or figurative, have you ever been presented with a crossroads?  "Crossroads" attracted work by 20 artists from nine central-Pennsylvania counties (Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, Schuylkill, Snyder, and Union); two of these artists had work here for the first time.

The show runs Monday, January 5th, through Friday, February 13th, with a reception on Friday, February 6th.
